My Star-W Journal

7/9/04  We have had workshops all week. We learned a new way to do web quests. We actually were taught this last summer but this was just a different program for creating them. On Wednesday, I created 35 picture promtps ( this was the most productive day). Thursday, we created hot lists through the web-and-flow website. It is actually something I have already done on my site but never had a name for it. It's just a list of web sites I have looked at and have something to do with what ever I have the students studying. I hope that we will be able to have free time in order to create a lot of webquests for the students during the school year. We have the time now and sometimes throughout the year we lack time.

7/12/04 We created some scenarios today. The battery in our camera died so we will finish our scenario tomorrow. In the morning, we seperated into groups. Our group discussed some new ways to create data bases. We wanted to create an excel program which tracks student behavior. We would inut data and watch individual student. We would offer consequences like the following: participate 2 weeks in the golf program or for continued offenders they have to enroll in the United Way's Big Brothers program. The parent would be required to come in for the parent-teacher conference and they could fill out these forms when they are here. Hopefully, we will watch after interventions are enforced the student's behavior will be more positive. We also would have a in-service for teachers on different things to do in your classroom before completing write-ups, types of actions that you should handle in your classroom, and what you should send to administration. We also want the teachers to be able to e-mail the write-ups to the principal. We want to create a panel of student council president, teacher, administrator, parents, and our guidance counselor. For students who have had a lot of problems, this panel would decide what to do, what actions should be taken, and recommend how to deal with the constant problems.

7/13/04 We spent a good portion of the day gathering information for creating new consequences for behavior. We wanted a more positive report ex. you have to attend the golf program for 2 weeks rather than a suspension.

We just talked and started recording our ideas, We thought about starting discipline on a point system. The student begins with 100 points and points are decudted for behavior. However, points are added back for positive "extras" like helping a teacher or some type of service to the school. In order to do monthly activites ( which has to be scheduled and kept up on) students must have a certain number of points. It is an idea that would truly effect behavior and give the students another area to be successful in. These are our basics so far...
