I can't believe it's May already!!  We're here working on a Saturday!!  Yes, that's right...a six day work week!!  But it's so much fun, we're all extremely excited with the latest news!  It seems the State was very pleased with our progress and we are going to be able to continue with full funding for year 2 of the STAR-W grant!!

It's a fantastic chance for us to move forward with what we already have in place, and to take it to the next level.  Especially with the new project that we're planning, I can see so many possibilities!

We're planning an end of the year pizza party for the students and parents which should be a great chance to pump everyone up for next year.  We're going to take advantage of that opportunity to get AUP's signed, etc. so that way we'll be up and running right off the bat in September!

I really love the collaborative process and how well we all work together.  I think it's vital to the success of the program.  I hope 5th grade will fall right into place and be able to survive in this hectic, energetic, free-flowing atmosphere.

I continue to be amazed at how much of a change in attitude I have had toward technology in general.  I was always aware of technology and its practical application but I wasn't so comfortable with integrating it on a daily basis....both in my own life, and in my teaching.  Now, it's such a natural part of my "world" that I am open to new possibilities like never before.

I think this is a major accomplishment for me, due completely to the STAR-W program.  I now look at things in terms of how we can enhance a project or take it to a new level, using the technology we have in place.  Like, yesterday...it was Cinco de Mayo.  Due to habit, I thought, "Hmmm...let me see what I have on this topic that I can xerox."  But then, Melissa had already created a little Scavenger Hunt on the topic!!  So, voila!!  All of the students were researching, and reading, and writing their answers.  They really enjoyed listening to the Mexican music and watching a little video clip of authentic Mexican dancers.

Today, they are finishing up and also working on some of these Activity Cards Marilyn left for us.  They are using Kid Pix to create Mother's Day Coupons.  It's a really neat product, which I think would work well as a center.  I think it would be a great "extra" activity for students as we work with flexible groups.  Especially as we move toward the new literacy program in the district, managing groups will be crucial.  So, my vote is YES for these materials.  I'm so glad Marilyn pulled out the samples last weekend!!  So much to do, so little time!!  I can't wait to do more w/ Hot Potatoes this weekend.  I think it will be another program we'll all love!!
