Language Arts Standards and Technology is an excellent series of suggestions from the San Diego School District on how to make the technology connection between Language Arts standards and technology.  It covers both reading and writing standards.

ETTC Writing Prompts provides lesson plans, news photos to be used as writing  prompts and links to the actual news stories that provided the  pictures.

Using  AlphaSmarts is a collection of integration ideas, activities, and lessons that address core content and technology literacy standards.

The Media Awareness Center in Canada offers these interactive  downloadable online modules that take students through a CyberTour of twelve  mock Web sites to test their savvy surfing skills.

  • Privacy Playground: The First Adventure of the Three Little CyberPigs (for ages 7-9)
    In this first adventure, the CyberPigs learn about online marketing, and about protecting their privacy as they surf the  Internet.
  • CyberSense and Nonsense: The Second Adventure of the Three CyberPigs (for ages 9-11)
    In their second adventure, the CyberPigs explore the world of chat rooms and learn to distinguish between fact and  fiction, and to detect bias and harmful stereotyping in online content.
  • Jo Cool or Joe Fool (for grades 6 - 8)
    This interactive online game takes students through a series of mock sites that test their savvy surfing skills.  The game ends with an online quiz, that gives students an even more in-depth  level of information.

Quality Information  Checklist is a simple eight point checklist to help elementary school children evaluate the quality of web site content.

The Amazing Picture  Machine   
The North Central Regional Educational Laboratory provides a searchable index to graphical resources on the Internet. It provides information on citing images and detailed copyright information. This is a very useful site  for anyone making websites. Good for writing  prompts

Young Writers Workshop   
Young Writers Workshop encourages creativity by providing printable  story starters for children in preschool and primary grades.

Learningpage.com has printable stories and activity sheets.  Of more interest to me is the Clipart section that can be used in stories.

CanTeach is a Canadian web site that houses elementary school resources.  One of the pages contains a text file of hundreds of  writing prompts which I have I turned into interactive web pages that allow the students to click on a category for a writing prompt and the system will generate at random prompt from the list.

Giggle Poetry is a  fun poetry site.  There's always a poetry question on that state  test!
