Jennifer
Alden is a fourth grade teacher at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School
in Atlantic City, NJ.
She
has been teaching for 5 years.
She
is currently working on completion of her Master's Degree with a
Concentration in Educational Leadership. Alden has been using technology
in her classroom for years. The star-w grant has given her the proper
tools to walk the students through their projects in a more visual
way.
She
helped to spear head the "Tech Camp 2004" program. It
is a hands-on computer technology summer camp. There was 8 students
selected to become mentors to their classmates. It is a 2 week camp
where the end product was to create a film in which the students
wrote, produced, edited, and directed. It was a great opportunity
for the students and shows the true meaning of this grant.
She
loves working with her students on Power Point projects. A few she
has done in the past includes the Solar System, G Washington, A.
Lincoln, and Famous African Americans. The students will be creating
an end of the year project " All About Me..." In this
project, students will be scanning old pictures and using the digital
camera to illustrate their personal biographies.
Alden
says, " I love allowing the students to create research projects
on power point. It is great exposure to what people do in the business
world. It allows the students to reach outside our room and turn
a boring paper into a picture moving, slide transitioning, exciting
project."
Her
student says, " I like that I got to create my own project
about George Washington. I got my own information that I could pick
through choosing the best pictures, animated clip arts, and the
idea that this allows me to be artistic while doing a paper. It
wasn't so boring."
