The First Steps
Start with the simple things. Check for a loose cable or network connection. The first step is always to check connections. There should be a printer cable going from your computer to the print spooler box (the little box that sits between the network and the teacher station) and a network cable going from the spooler to the network drop in the wall.
If that solves it, great. If not, check to make sure the program you are using is directed toward the correct printer. You are on the network and technically you should be able to print to a variety of computer. Your print job may actually be working, but it's printing out on a printer in the board office or a classroom down the hall.
To check to see where you are printing, in the program you are using, go to File, and Print. When the print box comes up, look at the name of the Printer. Of course you have to know the name of your printer. If the name is not the same, use the pull down box to change it.
Setting the Default Printer
If it was pointing to the wrong printer, your default printer may have been changed. To reset it, go to My Computer, Control Panel, Printers, right click on your computer and make sure there a check next to Set As Default.
It's Still Not Printing!
The next most likely problem is memory. The majority of print problems are problems that reside in memory chips. Something gets scrambled or over written in memory. The only way to fix these problems is to clear the memory. The only way to clear the memory is a shut down and restart. The problem is that there are memory chips in the computer, the printer, and the print spooler.
The simplest solution is to shut down all three and restart them. Shut down can be in any order, but restart should be in a special order. The spooler should be turned on first, followed by the computer and then the printer.
Shutting down the spooler involves removing the power cord. That can be from from the wall or the back of the spooler. Memory sometime drains slowly and you should always leave the power off for at least 30 seconds.
