Ms. Castaldi's  Journal

I haven't written in my journal for a month!  I am slacking.  That doesn't mean that I haven't been using my technology!  I have incorporated the writing prompts to my student's page.  I love this!  The kids love using this too.  Earlier last month we had Sandy O'Neill come and visit MLK.  She was observing to see what we were doing with the children.  She was very supportive of what we were doing here.  Today we are having a workshop with Art and Marilyn.  Fifth grade teachers are here learning about Contribute.  They're doing great and it is exciting to have them on board.

I reworked my journal pages to be linked to the different months.  I think it is more organized like that.  On Monday I went to the "My Classroom to Yours" workshop at Stockton.  I learned so much.  Jen and I went, and we came back with some great ideas.  We are very eager to share them at our next workshop with the starw crew.  Jen had a little mishap with the digital cameras.  She showed the kids how to use them and then sent them on a scavenger hunt....I seem to remember one of our workshops being about this.  The kids had such a great time and they really worked hard, but all of the cameras malfunctioned!  I think it was a great idea of Jen's and she is so on the ball with teaching the kids how to use anything!  I think we need to get some better cameras for next year.  This is a hands-on grant where the kids are going to be using the equipment.  When we went to the workshop a man named Tom showed us a virtual tour that his kids made.  They used all of the equipment.  I"m sure the cameras are under warranty, but I think we should invest in some that won't break so easily.

This week we finished our autobiographies.  Now, they will go to Ms. Alden's class and complete a power point presentation to go along with their books.  Their books turned out much better than I had expected.  This week we also reviewed adjectives.  They worked very hard this week so today they are with their partner and they are working on KidPix.  They are making pictures and then writing a sentence with adjectives to describe the picture.  They're having a good time and they are using great adjectives.
