1.  Read the story.  Look at the book cover and skim and scan the story.  (Do a book walk.)  Predict what the story will be about.

2.  Write what you know/ what you want to know/ and later write what you've learned.  (K-W-L chart)

3.  Name the bullies and a friend from the story.  What are some character traits of a bully and of a friend?

4.  How did she feel about her name?  How did it sound?  Explain details from the story.

• 5.  When the teacher called her name the first day, how did the other students feel about her name?  Has anyone made you feel good or bad about your name? Explain.

6.  How would you help Chrysanthemum feel better or what would you do to stop the others from teasing her?
